CYCLAMEN, 26 March, 2017

Autum is here and Cyclamen are blooming bringing colour in the cooler seasons.  They bring colour the shadier areas inside or outdoors.

Care Tips:  Cyclamen tend to not like warmer temperatures or being over watered the leaves turn yellow and they tend to die off faster.
Water your cyclamen from the bottom by placing the pot in a tray of water so the roots can absorb the water.  Sometimes the flower stems will start to droop don't worry they aren't dead just put it into a tray of water and the stems will slowly stand up tall again.

PROPOGATING HYDRANGEAS, 5 Jan, 2017

Hydrangea cuttings propogated one White, Pink and Purple. There's nothing more satisfying then growing your own plants from free cuttings.  I propogated these cuttings in January (Summer) it's now late March (Autumn) and it's starting to sprout buds.
SUMMER BLUEBERRIES, 28 Dec, 2016

I purchased this blueberry plant and potted it after my first attempt failed I decided to try again but this time using soil mix suitable for blueberries.
Really looking to eating my own grown blueberries next summer.
SEMPERVIVUM ARACHNOIDEUM, 2 Nov 2016

This bizarre succulent has this fine cobweb hair covering the center of the plant and now these pups sprouting out from the parent plant like a strange alien creature.  These are super easy to replant once the pups start growing roots.
STRAWBERRIES, 20 Oct 2016

I'm looking forward to having Strawberries this summer and with plenty of new growth and blossoms it's gonna be an excellent harvest.  Hopefully the pests don't get to the strawberries before I do. To give my strawberries and extra boost I'm feeding them with my own Worm tea from my own worm farm.

SPRING BULBS, 18 Sept 2016

Nothing says Spring is here better then Daffodils and Tulips.  Since I don't have a big garden I love growing in containers.

STRAWBERRIES, DEC 2015

These Pajaro and Camarosa varieties were purchased from the plant centre.  After my first attempt failed I purchased a bag of organic compost mix ideal for Strawberries. Determined to get this right I had some problems with aphids or other pests muching on my plant and strawberries. So I managed to get some nice sized and juicy berries I can't wait for the roots to become better established.
SUCCULENTS AND CACTI

I absolutely love succulents and cacti for their hardiness able to survive drought and hot or windy environments also the bizarre shapes and formidable spines.  These slow growing plants can be expensive in the stores so if I can I try to propogate succulents.  I love taking close up shots of some of the unique patterns and plants that I collect.

ECHINACEA AND RUDBECKIA

I purchased some Echinacea and Rudbeckia seeds online since the plant stores only sell one or two varieties I thought I'd try growing some myself.  Germinating the seeds under lights.  some seeds need the right conditions to germinate.
COLD STRATIFICATION
In horticulture, stratification is the process of treating stored or collected seed prior to sowing to simulate natural winter conditions that a seed must endure before germination.

in this picture I've put the seeds in with some vermiculite add a bit of water into plastic bags, labelled each one and put them through cold stratification for six weeks to simulate winter.

After six weeks I sowed the seeds in this tray covered in vermiculite, labelled with a old aquarium light with day bulb.  Fingers crossed they germinate.
